Class Descriptions

Core: students Pre-K through 6th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., in-person)


Core consists of memory work in seven subjects (Timeline, History, Geography, Science, English Grammar, Latin, and Math). The material is learned through song, repetition, games, visuals, and group activities.


Core also includes weekly hands-on science experiments, art projects and artist studies, tin whistle, and composer and musical composition studies.


Connect: students 4th through 6th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 1:15 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., in-person and online)


Connect is a fun but high-intensity grammar and writing curriculum, including spelling and vocabulary. Weekly papers are written by students using the week's composition lesson and incorporating focused history lessons. The material taught is equivalent to middle and high-school level courses but is presented and learned in such a way that 4th through 6th graders can readily understand and excel.


Concepts A: students 6th through 8th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.-3:45 p.m., in-person and online)


Concepts A is a 7th-grade equivalent class which includes Latin, Newberry Literature, Composition, Anatomy, SAT Vocabulary, Geography, Earth Science, Nature Sketch Journal, and Logic. Math (Pre-Algebra) is supplemented at home. Blue Book exams are proctored at the end of each semester.


Though 7th grade equivalent, this program may be utilized by 6th and 8th graders as well, as each lesson may be tailored appropriately.


Concepts B: students 7th through 9th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m.-3:45 p.m., in-person and online)


Concepts B is an 8th-grade equivalent class which includes Latin, Children's Literature, Composition, SAT Vocabulary, History, Science, Formal Logic, Current Events, Debate, and Mock Trial. Math (Pre-Algebra or Algebra) is supplemented at home. Blue Book exams are proctored at the end of each semester.


Though 8th grade equivalent, this program may be utilized by 7th and 9th graders as well, as each lesson may be tailored appropriately.


Concepts 1: students 8th through 10th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., in-person and online)


Concepts 1 is an 9th-grade equivalent class which includes Latin, Policy Debate, Physical Science, Nature Sketch Journal, SAT Vocabulary, Composition, Shakespearean Drama, American Literature, American Government/Civics, and Economics. Math (Algebra 1 or 2) is supplemented at home. Blue Book exams are proctored at the end of each semester.


Though 9th grade equivalent, this program may be utilized by 8th and 10th graders as well, as each lesson may be tailored appropriately.


Concepts 2: students 9th through 11th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., in-person and online)


Concepts 2 is a 10th-grade equivalent class which includes foreign language of choice, Team and Lincoln-Douglas Debates, Biology, Nature Sketch Journal, SAT Vocabulary, Composition, British Literature, Western Cultural History, Art Grant Proposals, Socratic Dialogue, Geography, and Traditional Logic. Beginning in the spring semester, students take turns as student facilitators. One elective is required. Math (Algebra 2 and Geometry) is supplemented at home. Blue Book exams are proctored at the end of each semester.


Though 10th grade equivalent, this program may be utilized by 9th and 11th graders as well, as each lesson may be tailored appropriately.


Concepts 3: students 10th through 12th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., in-person and online)


Concepts 3 is an 11th-grade equivalent class which includes SAT Vocabulary, Shakespeare and Drama, Poetry, foreign language study of choice, Chemistry, Philosophy, American History, Civics/Government, Socratic Dialogue, Debate, Speech, Mock Trial, and Student Facilitating. Students must successfully pass the U.S. Civics Test. One elective is required. Math (Pre-Calculus) is supplemented at home. Blue Book exams are proctored at the end of each semester.


Though 11th grade equivalent, this program may be utilized by 10th and 12th graders as well, as each lesson may be tailored appropriately.


Concepts 4: students 11th through 12th grade

(Meet on Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., in-person and online)


Concepts 4 is a 12th grade equivalent class which includes foreign language study of choice, Physics, Philosophy & Theology, World Religions, SAT Vocabulary, English Grammar, Composition, Ancient Literature, Speech/Debate, Civics, World History, Student Facilitating, and the completion of a Senior Thesis, which is defended before a panel of professionals. Math (Pre-Calculus or Calculus) is supplemented at home. During the fall semester, there are several mandatory financial seminars which cover taxes, investments, college planning and scholarships, credit card know-how, budgeting, savings, and more. A Blue Book exam is proctored at the end of the fall semester, and the SAT and/or ACT must be taken in the spring semester. Seniors will also participate in an out-of-state Spring Trip. A graduation ceremony is scheduled in May for those students who successfully meet TLC standards. College scholarships may be available for qualifying graduates.


Though 12th grade equivalent, this program may be tailored to accommodate 11th graders.
